As a psychotherapist for over 20 years, I am well aware of the fact that talking about places we're stuck, learning where patterns developed, and understanding our challenges does not alone create change. Our body holds a lifetime of information and has learned ways to stay safe, strategies for fitting in, and a template for relationship with everything.
In these 6 week groups, you'll be practicing new ways of being....with ourselves, with others, and in the world. Our gatherings will be focused on experience, not words, and I'll guide and support you to try on and to notice familiar and unfamiliar ways of moving. I'll invite you to bring curiosity and compassion to what shows up....noticing what feels old, that you may not need anymore, as well as identifying new ways of inhabiting your body in a loving way. We'll have times to share thoughts together and discuss what comes up, but this will primarily be an experiential way of working.
These groups will not be a substitute for individual therapy but a helpful addition to the work you're already doing. You'll share your small group with others on the same path....to practice with, to connect with, to witness and be witnessed by. It is my belief that this is another element that can be missed in our individual work....healing in community. We weren't built to do this alone....come find connection, support, and growth by stepping in to one of these circles.
Using your body as a tool to express and move what is within as well as to find ways to process and regulate through movement
You'll learn to find center and ground within you and practice holding it in relationship to others in the room as well as when having emotion.
Movement practice is a great way to explore what happens as you interact with others, to notice habits, boundaries, guards, needs....all with curiosity. It's through noticing that we can try on something new.
Since this is a group process, there will also be noticing what it's like to give/receive support and to be a part of a small group that invites sharing, connection, and closeness.
Your body, sensations, the present, the room your in, all emotions and thoughts....I'll invite you to expand your lens rather than to contract it to a singular focus on "what isn't working"
Our bodies can be sources of shame, frustration, and disappointment.
I'll support you to soften that response, perhaps learning a new way to be in relationship....not through positive talk or affirmations, but through deepening our experience and connection with our bodies through the practice of movement.
We'll be mindful of many patterns...physical, emotional, relational, and mental, and have a chance to practice some new ways of being in the room (either online or in person). I'll invite that practice to continue between sessions...taking this work into your life.
I am placing this offering on hold for the remainder of 2023 to make
space for a collaboration with a couple of other fabulous therapists.
Stay tuned for more...regarding this new offering as well as
for the return of Movement as Therapy!
Details coming soon both online and through my newsletter.
