That may sound odd.....after all, this is where you spend most of your time...right? But how tuned in are you to the intelligence that your body holds? How aware are you of all that is stirring within?
This body-based mindfulness practice asks you to relax your intellect, quiet your brain, and connect with the messages you receive internally. With presence and engagement, while looking through a lens of curiosity and playfulness, you will learn to attune to the knowledge of your body, rather than reacting to or responding from it's perceptions without even realizing.
You will learn to move from your center and in alignment with what your body is feeling and needing. This experiential approach reveals emotions and patterns of relating and engaging with yourself and others.
Everyone is welcome, movement will be tailored to you......your body is in charge.
Group gatherings (in person Wednesday evenings or online) begin with a facilitated start to help you to get grounded in your body and to turn your attention inward. I will provide guidance as well as times for you to explore and experiment on your own. Each class is unique. Use this class as a mindful/meditative experience....providing a space for you to express your emotions through movement, allowing your body to play alone or in connection with others. Bring what you need to the dance floor and allow your body to support you and lead you.....exploring the music, movement, and the moment. These will be around a theme to explore...something universal to support all of us on our journey.
Dancing with the Elements use the same format, but we'll be outdoors. Those who sign up will be sent directions to our meeting spot These will be held rain/shine....dancing with the earth, sky, and all of the inspiration that provides. Music will be a backdrop, but we'll try to tune in to the sounds of nature as well. Smaller groups....I'll limit the number of those who can attend to assure a more intimate environment and connection to the environment.
The next level of depth are the Soul in Motion Series. These have a specific focus. I provide more structure and facilitation, while also allowing some freedom to play and experiment with what you are learning about letting your body inform movement and expression rather than your thoughts or the outside world. It's about connecting with how things feel rather than look, maybe even having a new experience of inhabiting your body! This is a practice to support you in how you move and respond to the world both on and off the dance floor. Perhaps an easier entry point for those who are anxious with starting to dance, or those who would like some more parameters. It can also be beneficial to expand the vocabulary of your dance, to deepen your practice, or to take you to places you haven't explored. Once again, I'll meet you where you are.....let me know, listen to your body, honor what you need.
Workshops have even more facilitation and guidance. These have themes that will help you to determine if it's something you'd like to dive into more deeply. Our bodies play a role in our social and emotional lives and we hold patterns that often are outside of our awareness. Awareness creates choice, and more choices allow more freedom. These workshops are aimed at uncovering unconscious ways of being, re-learning, choosing.
Private group sessions. I get that this may feel like a stretch to you...perhaps you haven't felt joy, ease, or freedom in your body for some time, perhaps your relationship with your body is less than stellar, perhaps you don't even trust this is for you, maybe you would prefer more individualized support with a friend, a few others you know, or a group you are already a part of. I'll work with you and your group to define your goals and create a plan tailored to you, even with a playlist tailored to you. I'd love to be your guide and support.
I'm a total convert to Soul in Motion. I resisted for months....I didn't want to, but I had a feeling that I was going to like it. I was completely freaked out to dance on Zoom, so I moved to the side of the screen so I could still see Lynne and hear her instruction without anyone seeing me. It has been one of the most relaxing things I've done for myself in years. I feel so invigorated after class. I actually look forward to it now.
If you're skeptical or feel awkward dancing, just give it a try. I promise it will change the way you feel in your body. It's wonderful.
